I called the ENT yesterday who sat Landon up in speech, I still have not heard from them and I was told it would only take a week, two max. So I called when it had been just a week as I as told to do and they told me that they were doing it through CRS (children's rehab. services) and that they had to wait for the doctors letters to be typed out and faxed over, she said they had done that and it school be soon. Well now its been 3 weeks so I called back. Today I learned that CRS turned Landon down for services because he does not have a hearing loss, so CRS send all the kids with speech problems with out hearing problems to USA Childrens Speech Services, and they have a wait list, no child is put higher on the list for and reason they are placed on the list as they come in and when their name comes up then they call you. When asked how long the wait would be they told me they could not say because someone have to go out of speech for someone to go in. BUT I got the vibe that the list was a long one. I asked the ENT nurse what I should do and she thought school or pre-k or paying for speech with out insurance would be the fastest ways to get him speech! OK well that would be great if we had the kind of money to pay for speech out of our pocket, or if we had the money to send him to the kind of school it would take to get him in the kind of speech he needed to be in.
Then I thought back to Aden, when Aden was 3 months old he got EI (early intervention) through the state. Twice a week they came to our house and "played" with Aden to catch him up to where he was suppose to be. He got PT and OT until he was 15 months old. I googled and found that their are two programs one is for birth to age 3 years and the other is for 3years to 21 years old. I called the number and the lady who deals with mobile county is out today of course, she should be back in her office in the morning so I left her a voice mail. They will test him to see if he an get sevices through them. They test any child that there is a call on. BUT I am not sure if he will be behind enough to get them.
Its catch 22, I am so glad his hearing is fine, but now that it is we are on a wait list for ST. I do not want him to be so far behind that we can get EI, but if he is not that far behind how long will he have to wait.
He starts School next year so I know he will be getting speech then I just really hope we do not have to wait a year to get him some help. The earlier you start the better the out comes are!!
